IL ASTA Teacher Education Workshop Co-Chair

Emily currently teaches 4th and 5th grade orchestra for Lombard School District 44 in Lombard, Illinois. She previously taught 5th-8th orchestra and K-5 general music in the Grand Rapids Christian School district. As a performer, Emily currently serves as the assistant principal cellist for the Harper Symphony Orchestra. She has previously played for the Holland Symphony Orchestra, professional string quartets in West Michigan, and served as the principal cellist for the Kent Philharmonic Orchestra for 4 seasons. An active improviser and arranger, Emily was the cellist and producer for Irish folk band, The Saltbound for 5 years. She has also been involved in numerous recording projects through various studios in West Michigan including River City Studios, DropDrop Studios, and Overneath Creative Emily serves as an active clinician, Solo & Ensemble judge and sectional leader. She has served as a pre-festival adjudicator for various schools in West Michigan and has judged Solo Festival events in Rockford and Hinsdale, Illinois. She previously served on the MSBOA executive board as the Vice President for Middle School Solo & Ensemble from 2015-2017. She is very excited to continue to work with IL ASTA. Emily is a graduate of Western Michigan University where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education and studied cello with Bruce Uchimura, a celebrated conductor and cellist. Emily lives in Glen Ellyn, Illinois with her husband, Bill and their 2 year old son, Kenney.
